Piggy!
After getting back from Denali, I completely let my diet go down the tubes. I've been eating EVERYTHING in sight without a care in the world.
For the 2 weeks upon our return, no problem because of how much weight we lost. Now? Well, it seems I need to get back on the wagon ...
Otherwise it'll be an even more painful return to the box when my back heals...

Strength: Bench Press 8x3
The chiro adjustment really helped, but I couldn't stay away from the gym
even though back still sore. subbed bench-press with ring L-sits.

I subbed push-presses with pushups and finished with slow, but steady 8:24

CFWL open gym - yay! shoe malfunction, jumprope broke, and kinda flipped
over on band during HSPU, but managed to finish.
TTB were fun fun fun. I love those too. Yoga helps me manage through CF core
stuff. Helped stretch out my oh so sore back. I don't what did it

fun fun fun! Today's workout incorporated
some of my favorite movements. I was really looking forward to this even
though I am not thrilled about the jumprope.
Strength: Hang Power Snatch 3-2-1-1 @ 70-80-90f-85-85
this is one of my favorite movements but i left ego at the door since i'm
still underweight. i worked on form because i'm trying to get myself back to
pre-expedition fitness - kept things simple and efficient. no use trying to
get a PR when i haven't lifted an oly bar in over 3 weeks. climbing a
mountain for 3 weeks does not a well-rounded crossfitter make.

150 single-unders
30 power cleans
100 single-unders
20 sumo deadlift high pulls
50 single-unders
10 power snatches
went a little lighter on metcon (70# @ 7:15) to keep things simple. jumprope
isn't my forte, so I broke a number of times and had to string them along
steadily. but seeing these lifts for metcon made me smile with relief since
they're a little like backback-lifting movements and more natural for me.
I'm not super-fast, but steady and almost unbroken throughout. felt good,
moved good, it's all good. yay!
Post WOD: muscle-up practice. still working on keeping arms/hands close to
body for that transition into the ring dip - it's frustrating, but i'll get
there!

ok. gotta come clean. i tend to let my shoulders drop on DLs... so now my
lower back is sore. it's not an excuse and i should know better. need to be
lifting correctly before lifting heavy... esp since i haven't been on the
bar since before the expedition. my bad.

couldn't get to CFC in time tonight - so i ran
5k to makeup yesterday @ 26:41 (just shy of 8:30 pace). acclimitisation
benefits definitely waning but good news is that i gained 8 lbs back of the
22 i lost during the expedition (up to 134lbs - yay!). also need to work on
pose - knees felt a little sore afterwards. it'll be a race to make it to
the gym tomorrow. Lots of things to do before I leave for WY

happy memorial day
much gratitude to those protecting me and the freedom
i enjoy.
as i sit here at my desk (supposed to be studying pharmacology) reading
through the crossfit blog and noting my first workout in almost 4 weeks
(randy @ 4:41 with 45#, btw), i start thinking about matt, about his kiss as
i tell him to stay safe when he leaves for work, and his dream to go pj. i
think about our future together, the plans we've been making, and all the
things we've shared together good and bad. i think about him and i am
grateful.
i am grateful for guys like matt. guys like matt are incredible - they are
the only ones standing in between me and the gangbangers, thieves, rapists,
psychos, and terrorists out there. we live our lives completely ignorant of
the ugliness lurking in the city and take for granted on a daily basis. guys
like matt define are hard-charging . stubborn, bull-headed, brutish, direct
. imperfect, but infinitely endearing. how can you NOT be grateful for what
someone is willing to do to protect and take care of you? how can you NOT
appreciate the guy who won't call attention to himself about what he does
and what he believes in . he just does it, shrugs, and simply says that it's
his way of standing by you and doing what he's supposed to do. a truly
special breed of men. i call guys like matt heroes.
of course, true to form, matt refuses to hear it and even rolls his eyes
when i talk about it . but today is memorial day. today is his day. today is
for guys like matt. so i make him his favorite meals, rub his back and feet,
let him torture me with all his gross guy stuff, kiss him a lot, listen to
him grumble about things that annoy him, and do what i can to take care of
him in my own imperfect and endearing way.
