much gratitude to those protecting me and the freedom
i enjoy.

as i sit here at my desk (supposed to be studying pharmacology) reading
through the crossfit blog and noting my first workout in almost 4 weeks
(randy @ 4:41 with 45#, btw), i start thinking about matt, about his kiss as
i tell him to stay safe when he leaves for work, and his dream to go pj. i
think about our future together, the plans we've been making, and all the
things we've shared together good and bad. i think about him and i am
grateful.

i am grateful for guys like matt. guys like matt are incredible - they are
the only ones standing in between me and the gangbangers, thieves, rapists,
psychos, and terrorists out there. we live our lives completely ignorant of
the ugliness lurking in the city and take for granted on a daily basis. guys
like matt define are hard-charging . stubborn, bull-headed, brutish, direct
. imperfect, but infinitely endearing. how can you NOT be grateful for what
someone is willing to do to protect and take care of you? how can you NOT
appreciate the guy who won't call attention to himself about what he does
and what he believes in . he just does it, shrugs, and simply says that it's
his way of standing by you and doing what he's supposed to do. a truly
special breed of men. i call guys like matt heroes.

of course, true to form, matt refuses to hear it and even rolls his eyes
when i talk about it . but today is memorial day. today is his day. today is
for guys like matt. so i make him his favorite meals, rub his back and feet,
let him torture me with all his gross guy stuff, kiss him a lot, listen to
him grumble about things that annoy him, and do what i can to take care of
him in my own imperfect and endearing way.
